WINNIPEG — It’s going to be an exciting and emotional night for many Tragically Hip fans, as the legendary Canadian rock band takes the stage at MTS Centre Friday.
The Hip’s Man Machine Poem Tour has been travelling across Canada since July and will kick off the city’s show at 8:30 p.m.

In May, the band announced that frontman Gord Downie had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, and would play one last tour this summer.
Tickets to the Tragically Hip’s farewell tour sold out instantly and almost immediately were available on ticket re-seller sites and open market websites for well above face value.

On Wednesday, police arrested a 30-year-old man and 31-year-old woman, both from Winnipeg, who were attempting to sell two pairs of tickets to Friday’s Tragically Hip concert for “an amount substantially greater than their original face value.”

The final show is planned for Aug. 20 in their hometown of Kingston, Ont. The broadcast will be shown live at Assiniboine Park.
