The city said part of 112A Street in south Edmonton will remain closed until crews finish repairs to a large sinkhole that opened up Thursday afternoon.
The hole appeared in the community of Greenfield at 40 Avenue and 112A Street around 3 p.m. It appears to be several metres across and is nearly two metres deep at its lowest point.

One area resident told Global News the hole appeared rather suddenly.
“The one lady who lives next door here…had her car parked not too far from that hole,” Dan Tessari said. “When I came home, she was walking her daughter to the playground and it was still OK. By the time I came out of the house after going in, the hole had developed, so we went and got her so she could move her car.”
The city said the roadway collapse forced the closure of 112A Street between 40 Avenue and 39A Avenue.
Officials did not say what caused the sinkhole or how long it will take to fix.
