There’s a new business in downtown Kelowna: Star Buds, a play on words from Starbucks but they don’t sell lattes and americanos, they sell medical marijuana.

There’s another brand new medical marijuana dispensary on Dolphin Avenue near the Landmark buildings.

With the addition of these two locations, there are now at least five medical marijuana dispensaries operating in Kelowna, most with no business licenses.

Kelowna mayor Colin Basran admits he’s concerned about the growing number of pot shops.

He said it might look like the city is letting the dispensaries operate with impunity, but said things are in the works.

“That may be what it looks like on the outside but inside city hall we’re doing the best we can with the tools we have under our legislative authority to shut the down or to stop them from operating,” Basran said.
