Halifax Needham byelection to be held on August 30

A byelection in the Halifax Needham riding will be held Tuesday, August 30, Premier Stephen McNeil announced in a press release Saturday morning.

The area was previously represented by the NDP’s Maureen MacDonald, who retired earlier in the year. She was first elected in the riding in the ’90s.

“To date, there is one registered candidate: Rodney Wilson, Nova Scotia Liberal Party. The CEO expects that all five registered parties will have candidates file nomination papers to contest the seat,” Elections Nova Scotia confirmed in a press release.

The PC Party of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia NDP previously and separately announced that Andy Arsenault and Lisa Roberts, respectively, will be candidates.
