Officials investigating cause of serious grassfire

 Officials are investigating the cause of a major grassfire that’s wreaking havoc both in and around Lethbridge.

Fortis told Global news that their crews are trying to determine whether a downed power line was to blame for sparking the blaze. Workers were not allowed into the area until late Monday afternoon.

AltaLink is also investigating, and are trying to determine whether a power or transmission line is to blame. A spokesperson said they are investigating a so-called ‘trip on their line’ but aren’t sure what caused it.

The grassfire broke out on the Blood Reserve early Monday afternoon and has sparked evacuations throughout the county.
