Environment Canada issued several severe thunderstorm watches throughout southern Alberta on Tuesday, including Calgary and Lethbridge.

The warnings, issued just after 11 a.m., suggest thunderstorms are likely to develop in the afternoon.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain,” warned Environment Canada.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce large hail, damaging winds or torrential rainfall.
