The City of Calgary’s integrity commissioner issued his report Monday on comments made by Mayor Naheed Nenshi during a private conversation that were made very public.
In April, Nenshi was caught on a live-streaming app having a candid conversation with a Lyft driver.
During the chat, Nenshi brought up the city’s relationship with the rideshare company Uber and referred to one Uber executive as a “dick.”

The mayor also implied the city had possibly hired criminals to try to test Uber’s security-screening process.
In his report, Allen Sulatycky asked the mayor to apologize once again – specifically to city administration and to Calgarians.
The report also compared the mayor’s description of the alleged background check operation to that of an episode of the Keystone Kops “which in itself raises questions as to its accuracy.”
“The only reasonable explanation is that he was simply enthusiastically indulging in some extravagant hyperbole,” Sulatycky added.

On Monday afternoon, the mayor complied – issuing another apology at city council and a written apology which was posted online.
Watch below: Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi spoke to reporters on Monday after the city’s integrity commissioner released a report calling on him to apologize over controversial comments he made about Uber in April.
It reads, in part, “I made a mistake and I’ve learned an important lesson. Whether or not I thought the conversation was private, I shouldn’t have said what I did. Calgarians and my colleagues at The City deserve better than that.”
Nenshi also answered reporters’ questions about the report Monday evening.
“I accept the integrity commissioner’s report,” Nenshi said. “I think that it’s very clear I screwed up and when you screw up you should take your lumps.”
“One should learn from this and I think I’ve learned a lesson from it,” Nenshi added. “Even if you don’t know you’re being recorded, one should strive to be the same person in private as in public and I think that is a good lesson for me.”
