Man upgraded to stable condition after near-drowning at Kearney Lake

Halifax Regional Police say the condition of the 21-year-old East Uniacke man pulled from the water in Kearney Lake has improved and is no longer life-threatening.

The man was brought to hospital in life-threatening condition on Saturday afternoon after being pulled out of the water by a friend and an unknown bystander. Police said the two men were able to swim to where he was last seen and managed to pull him to shore.

Police were called to the lake for reports of a “swimmer in distress” at 4:35 p.m.

According to police, the victim’s friends were performing CPR on him when officers arrived at which time they took over lifesaving efforts. The man was rushed to hospital where police said he remained Saturday evening.

The man was swimming near a dam in a smaller section of Kearney Lake near Larry Uteck Blvd.

Police continued to investigate the incident. It happened near the dam by Larry Uteck Boulevard.
