The suspect in the apparent murder of a 22-year-old Coquitlam woman yesterday was found dead in Buntzen Lake early this morning.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) began investigating last night, after the young woman’s body was found in a home in the 1100 block of Eagleridge Drive.
A female suspect that was known to the victim fled the residence before police arrived on scene.
Her vehicle was found near Buntzen Lake. After an extensive search by IHIT, Coquitlam RCMP, Air1 and Coquitlam Search and Rescue, the suspect’s body was discovered in the water this morning.
“While evidence gathered suggests this to be a tragic case of murder/suicide, there remains much work to be done,” said Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound in a statement.
The names of both people have not been released, but several neighbours have told Global News the suspect was the victim’s mother, and that she had suffered with mental health issues in recent months.
IHIT says the family is cooperating in the investigation.
