Rainbows are often the sign of improving weather after stormy conditions. It’s the result of combining both sunshine and rainfall together. The sun shines through the raindrops and the light is reflected of the arc of the drop displaying the spectrum of colours in the sky.
But recently, we have had reports of many double rainbows across the province. Most recently in the Fraser Valley after a major rainstorm rolled across the Lower Mainland this past Thursday.
How are double rainbows created? Well – it’s simply the sun light being reflected off of the raindrops not just once, but twice. The secondary rainbow is often much dimmer but if you look closely you’ll see the rainbow colours are inverted.
So if you’re searching for a pot of gold, follow the first rainbow – the second pot may be empty since it’s upside down.
