KELOWNA – Swimming 2.1 kilometres is hard enough.
The colder than normal water temperatures make it that much tougher.
The race director for Saturday’s Interior Savings Across the Lake Swim says participants are strongly encouraged to wear wet suits.
The temperature of Okanagan Lake is about 18 degrees compared to the more typical mid-July temperature of 23 degrees.

The race starts at the old ferry docks on the west side of the lake and ends at Kelowna’s City Park.
The fastest swimmers will make the crossing in about 22 minutes.
Almost 1300 people have registered which is a new record high.
Although there may be rain showers, the forecast doesn’t call for high winds or lightning activity.
This is the 68th year for the event.
