A new high-throughput grain terminal is being built in Maymont, Sask, the first terminal to be built by GrainsConnect Canada.
The state-of-the-art terminal, the first of four the company says it will construct, is going up on the Canadian National Railway line.
“Today is a significant milestone for GrainsConnect Canada, an international joint venture between GrainCorp and Zen-Noh,” said Warren Stow, president of GrainConnects Canada.
“It represents the first stage of our substantial investment in Canadian grain infrastructure.”

When complete, officials say the terminal will have 35,000 tonnes of storage and utilize a 130-car train loop, which they say will allow them to load a full train in under 10 hours.
“This is great news for growers as it increases their choice and options for their grain production,” Stow said.
“GrainsConnect brings new demand and connects the region’s growers to our global consumer demand base.”
Construction is expected to be completed in late 2017, creating up to 10 full-time jobs once the terminal is operational.

GrainCorp is Australia’s largest agribusiness with operations in a number of countries including the U.S., China and the U.K.
The Zen-Noh Group is a federation of Japanese agriculture cooperatives, supplying products and services to 1,032 member cooperative unions.
