Hundreds of Black Lives Matter demonstrators took to the streets of L.A. Sunday evening to protest the police shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.

The march remained peaceful in more ways than one, as protesters formed a massive peace symbol that could be seen by helicopters flying overhead.

Protesters clogged a busy intersection in the suburb of Inglewood and chanted “black lives, we matter, yeah” and “racist cops have got to go.” The protest held up motorists for an hour.

Traffic chaos became worse when a group of protesters broke away from the main demonstration and marched onto the 405 Freeway, bringing vehicles to a standstill for several minutes.

Police told local media that no arrests were made and there were no reports of violence.

“There has been no reason for interference by us,” Inglewood police Lt. Gregory Held told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s all been peaceful.”

The protest was one of many across the U.S. on Sunday that took over highways and major thoroughfares.
