Construction on the new Dr. Tom Smith-Windsor House is now complete in Prince Albert, Sask.
Students in medical school, locum physicians and visiting health providers are now being housed in the new building.

The housing complex is part of the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region’s (PAPHR) strategy for recruiting and supporting students that come to the city for training.
“The opportunity to retain health care professionals in rural and regional centres is increased by exposing students to these settings early in their career,” said Rural and Remote Health Minister Greg Ottenbreit.
“There is no doubt that having new, modern housing available close to Victoria Hospital will help attract health care providers to the Prince Albert area.”
The $1.9-million project includes two two-bedroom units, two one-bedroom units and 17 bachelor suites.

The land and buildings at the former Pineview Terrace Lodge were sold last year by PAPHR to fund its replacement. The health region has continued renting the old units until students finish moving into the Dr. Tom Smith-Windsor House.
PAPHR also provides housing for those in the Saskatchewan International Physician Practice Assessment (SIPPA) program, which assesses foreign-trained doctors in the province.
