Saskatoon police use GPS to track down stolen truck, arrest man

Police were able to locate a stolen truck using its GPS after it was stolen from outside a Saskatoon business.

Just before 3 p.m. CT on Thursday, police received a report the truck had been stolen after it had been left running outside a Stonebridge liquor store.

A few minutes later, police were notified the truck was in the north part of the city through the vehicle’s GPS system.

Around 15 minutes later, a canine officer spotted the truck in the Airport Drive area.

The officer started following the stolen truck, but eventually lost sight of the erratically driven vehicle.

Minutes later, the GPS showed police the truck had been turned off in the 300 block of Melickie Road in the Silverwood Heights neighbourhood.

Officers descended on the area and found a man hiding beneath a nearby vehicle.

A 24-year-old Saskatoon man was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle. He was also wanted on several arrest warrants.
