PENTICTON–Penticton fire crews are saying a morning grass fire is likely human caused, after bikers on the KVR Trail said they spotted three boys running from the scene.
Deputy Fire Chief Dave Spalding with the Penticton Fire Department said crews responded to the fire along the side of the KVR around 10:25 a.m. on Thursday.
When they arrived, homeowners had already jumped into action, using garden hoses to douse the fire which was spreading up an embankment towards their homes.
Spalding says the fire was only about 30 metres away from the neighbourhood, but the fire was moving slowly.
Fire crews were able to knock the small fire down quickly, but remained on the scene for about an hour and a half to make sure hot spots didn’t flare up again.
