Cochrane RCMP attend local school after alleged threat over social media. Global News

Cochrane RCMP say reports of threats made against a local school ended up being without merit.

Police were contacted by the vice-principal at Mitford Middle School on Monday about possible threats toward a member of the school community, allegedly made via Snapchat.

RCMP said they went to the school and talked to staff, witness and a suspect, but found the threats were not substantiated and said there were no safety concerns.

This isn’t the first time Cochrane RCMP have investigated threats against a local school.

A 15-year old high school student was charged last month with uttering threats after allegedly posting a photo of himself with ammunition on Snapchat.

The RCMP said the image posted warned students not to attend Cochrane High School on a certain day.

The teen was charged and released into his parents custody.
