A seven-year-old boy is in a Saskatoon hospital after he was struck by a school bus on Thursday afternoon in Wakaw, Sask.

The collision happened at around 3:30 p.m. CT at the intersection of 2nd Avenue South and 3rd Street South.

According to police, the boy was riding a bike north on 2nd Avenue when he was hit by the bus travelling in the same direction.

He was taken to Wakaw School by a passerby and treated by paramedics.

STARS ambulance then brought him to Saskatoon for treatment of his injuries. There is no word on his current condition.

Mounties say the boy was wearing a helmet.

A 55-year-old man from Wakaw has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Wakaw provincial court on July 12.
