SIU invokes mandate after teen injured in Toronto police arrest

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Ontario’s police watchdog says it will be looking into the arrest of a 19-year-old man from Toronto.

The Special Investigations Unit says the arrest took place on Tuesday afternoon when an undercover Toronto police officer was conducting an investigation.

The SIU says the officer had “an interaction” with two men, both of whom were ultimately arrested.

The watchdog says the teen had to be taken to hospital with what it describes as serious facial injuries, but did not provide information on how he came to be hurt.

No other details were released.

The SIU is an arms-length organization that investigates incidents involving police in which there have been deaths, injuries or allegations of sexual assault.
