May’s traffic safety blitz ended up snagging over 350 impaired drivers in Saskatchewan.
According to figures released Wednesday by Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI), there were a total of 359 impaired-related offences during the month.

The numbers include three zero blood alcohol content (BAC) offences, which applies to new drivers with any BAC level, and five low BAC offences for experienced drivers with a BAC level between .04 and .08.
The remaining offences, 351 in total, were for exceeding .08 BAC, impaired driving or refusing a breath test.

Police also ticketed 5,616 drivers for speeding or aggressive driving, 325 for distracted driving – including 225 for using cellphones – and handed out 450 tickets for seatbelt, car seat or booster seat violations.
During the month of June, the traffic safety blitz is focusing on new driver safety.

Police are also cracking down on drivers who speed past emergency vehicles with activated lights.
