MONTREAL – A 71-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the stabbing death of his 88-year-old mother-in-law in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
The stabbing happened at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in a home on Beaurivage Street near Notre-Dame Street East.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim inside the home.
Police said she had been stabbed at least once in the upper body.
The elderly woman was rushed to hospital where she later died of her injuries.
Police said they intercepted her son-in-law as he tried to flee the scene in a car.
Jean-Pierre Brabant with Montreal police (SPVM) said the suspect will appear in court Wednesday afternoon to face first-degree murder charges.
Tuesday’s death marks the seventh homicide of 2016 on SPVM territory and comes only a day after the city recorded its sixth homicide.
