MONTREAL – A 43-year-old man is dead after he was gunned down while sitting behind the wheel of his SUV in a Pointe-aux-Trembles parking lot Monday evening.

At 10 p.m. Montreal police(SPVM) received numerous 911 calls reporting possible gunshots fired on Notre-Dame Street East near 8th Avenue.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the victim sitting in his car.

“He was hit in the upper body with at least one projectile,” said Abdullah Emran with Montreal police.

He was pronounced dead shortly after.

Emran confirmed the victim was known to police.

The major crimes unit and the forensic team are on scene, investigating the sixth homicide of 2016 on SPVM territory.

Notre-Dame Street remained closed Tuesday  morning, between Saint-Jean-Baptiste Boulevard and 5th Avenue as investigators canvassed the area.

Emran said the street will remain closed for an indefinite amount of time as “a lot of footwork needs to be done.”
