Charges dropped in Vernon murder case

VERNON — Charges have been dropped against a teenager in a Vernon murder case.

A stay of proceedings has been entered against 19-year-old Brandon Wellington in provincial court.

Wellington was charged with second degree murder in the slaying of 42-year-old Jason Hardy who was found dead in Vernon’s Polson Park in August 2015.

The Crown prosecutor determined the charges against Wellington can no longer be substantiated following evidence heard at a preliminary hearing.

Two other males, Tal La Riviere, 29, and a 15-year-old boy, are also charged and their cases are proceeding.

Police have not revealed the cause of Hardy’s death or a possible motive.
