AED used on collapsed golfer at Holiday Park

Golf enthusiasts and staff reacted quickly as a 48-year-old man suffered a cardiac arrest on the Holiday Park Golf Course this morning.

A dispatcher instructed bystanders to initiate CPR on the victim while an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was brought out to the 4th hole on the regular 18 course.

Bystanders and Holiday Park staff applied the AED to the patient and shocked him one time.

Paramedics also applied spontaneous respirations and their LUCAS Chest Compression machine upon arrival.

By the time the victim reached the Royal University Hospital, he had a pulse and was breathing on his own.

“He is still in critical condition and our thought and prayers go out to his family,” says MD Ambulance spokesperson Troy Davies.

“Time is everything in a cardiac arrest and there is no doubt that the people golfing with him, who called 911 and the Holiday Park staff who brought their AED machine have given this patient a quality chance to survive.”

According to MD Ambulance, nearly 600 Saskatoon businesses have AED’s as a result of The Heart Safe Program, which has now saved 11 lives.
