MONTREAL — Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is a Kansas City Chief in the fall and a medical student at McGill University in the summer. On Monday morning, he found himself on McGill’s football field – literally having a field day.

“I was looking for a way to promote what I like: football and education.”

Duvernay-Tardif came up with the idea to have a field day for about 150 area students from a variety of schools, using prominent athletes as role models in an effort to promote exercise.

One of the athletes at the event was Maxim Tissot, left back for the Montreal Impact.

“Physical activity is very important for kids,” he said, adding “whether they have it enough in school is another debate.”

The roughly 150 kids who participated in the event – which included Parkour, soccer, football and ball hockey – have their last days of school this week.

For Duvernay-Tardif, it’s back to school for the summer.

“Sports is like the school of life,” he said. “You learn how to interact with people.”
