Suspect leads officers on car and foot chase in Montreal before being arrested

MONTREAL – A 32-year-old man was arrested Saturday night after crashing a vehicle police say was stolen and leading officers on a foot chase in Montreal’s Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough.

The incident happened at 9 p.m. after police on patrol spotted a stolen Jeep heading east on Côte-Saint-Luc Road.

The suspect sped away and crashed into another car and a police cruiser before hitting a utility post on the corner of Côte-Saint-Luc Road and Cavendish Boulevard.

According to Abdullah Emran with Montreal police, the suspect then climbed out of the Jeep’s window and fled the scene.

Police ran after him and caught up to him 50 meters away.

There were no reports of injuries.

Police confirmed the suspect is known to them.

He is expected to appear in court this week. Police say he could face charges of auto theft, hit-and-run, dangerous driving and obstructing justice.
