Police say a serial graffiti tagger has been arrested in North Vancouver.

On Monday, the 18-year-old man was taken into custody after being caught tagging a concrete pillar at the Trans Canada Highway overpass on Capilano Road in North Vancouver.

The man was in the process of taking a picture of his tag when a North Vancouver RCMP officer snuck up behind him and caught the tagger with paint still wet on his hands.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Cst. Chris Norlund with the North Vancouver RCMP says the damage caused by graffiti can sometimes be in the thousands of dollars.

“Although I appreciate the artistry in many of these tags, it’s important that a legal canvas is used,” said Norlund.

The alleged tagger has now been charged with mischief and breach of an undertaking given to a peace officer.
