Full access to Broadway Bridge as improvement project ahead of schedule

Up to 18,000 motorists a day will now have full access to Saskatoon’s Broadway Bridge and east and west access to 5 Corners.

The first two phases of a major road construction project in that area have been completed ahead of schedule.

Celene Anger, the city’s director of construction and design, said water main replacement work progressed faster than anticipated.

“The entire project is moving along really well,” Anger said. “Water main replacement work is progressing faster than originally anticipated, thanks to the great weather and some hard work on the part of our contractors.”

Now, work at the 10th Street intersection will begin early.

Road resurfacing in the 600- and 700-blocks of Broadway Avenue has now been bumped up to third week in June.

“The local business owners got a good taste of construction and they’ve come to us requesting for us to fully complete the phases instead of partial getting ready with the paving then coming back with the final pave,” Anger said.

“So we’re actually going to be staying in these locations a little bit longer but we will be fully paving it and restoring it before we move onto the next phase.”

By mid-to-late August crews are expected to move off Broadway and begin work on residential streets in the area.

City officials are reminding people that Broadway is open for business during all eight phases of construction.

The Broadway Avenue improvement project, which includes extensive water main upgrades and road paving, is expected to last until September.
