Boy, 6, waves for help after boat tips on Saskatchewan lake, but grandpa drowns

Police say boaters on Fish Lake in the Rural Municipality of Shellbrook were able to save the child on Wednesday, but his grandfather was already under water.

Officers from the Spiritwood detachment helped recover the body of Paul Grimard, who was 59, but he was already dead.

Grimard’s 55-year-old wife had swum to shore for help and was found and reunited with the boy.

Both were taken to hospital to be treated for exposure and hypothermia.

Police say the three had gone fishing for the day and it appears they were not wearing life jackets.
