Seattle man dies while paragliding in British Columbia

VICTORIA – A coroner’s office says a 55-year-old Seattle man is dead after a British Columbia paragliding accident.

The B.C. Coroners Service said John Clifford was competing Monday in the Canadian Paragliding National Championships in Pemberton, British Columbia, when something went wrong and he ended up in the Lillooet River.

Search and rescue crews were dispatched immediately but didn’t find Clifford until a day later because of severe weather.

The cause of death is being investigated.

Clifford is the fourth hang glider or paraglider to die in British Columbia this year.
