WATCH ABOVE: Fans celebrated the Saskatchewan Rush's National Lacrosse League title with a rally at the Bessborough Gardens. As Ryan Kessler reports, it was also an opportunity for the team to thank fans for support during its first season in Saskatchewan – Jun 8, 2016

A rally was held Tuesday in Saskatoon for the Saskatchewan Rush.

The Rush won their second consecutive National Lacrosse League (NLL) Champion’s Cup – and their first as the Saskatchewan Rush – on Saturday.

On hand for the rally were Rush players Mark Matthews, Robert Church and Nik Bilic along with team president Lee Genier and Mayor Don Atchison.

“The community’s been behind us the whole season so far. Just to see this to cap it off, it’s a beautiful thing,” Bilic said.

The team’s president stressed how the rally wasn’t just a celebration of the championship, but also a way to thank Rush supporters.

“The fans of this city and this province and the fans that came to every game [and] watched us from afar — that’s what made this team great,” Genier said.

Fans had a chance to have their picture taken with the Champion’s Cup. The trophy will then head to the Rush office for a few days before heading out of town for a player’s tour.

The rally took place at the Bessborough Gardens.
