KAMLOOPS — A speedboat operator whose erratic driving caused a crash that killed a houseboat driver has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Leon Reinbrecht, 54, was sentenced in B.C. Supreme Court in Kamloops on Thursday.
Reinbrecht was convicted on one count each of criminal negligence causing death and criminal negligence causing bodily harm following a trial last year.
Justice Sheri Donegan also handed Reinbrecht a five-year ban from operating a vessel after he is released.

Reinbrecht was found guilty of criminal negligence causing death and bodily harm in connection to the crash that killed Ken Brown.
Reinbrecht was charged following the crash on July 3, 2010, when his speedboat collided with a houseboat near Magna Bay.

Court heard Reinbrecht was driving recklessly before crashing into the houseboat which was being piloted by Brown. Eight others were injured in the crash.
Last month, Reinbrecht’s lawyer, Joe Doyle, argued unsuccessfully that the convictions should be overturned because his client was denied his right to a speedy trial.
