One woman is dead following a stabbing in the city’s southeast on Tuesday.
Officers were called to a fourplex in the 1800 block of 42 Street S.E. at around 11 p.m.
When they arrived, officers found a woman in her 30s suffering from stab wounds. The victim was then rushed to hospital where she later died.
On Wednesday, Calgary Police said the believed the woman’s death was the result of a domestic altercation after what started as a family gathering turned deadly.
“Verbal argument that escalated to a physical confrontation that was, we believed, fuelled in part by alcohol,” Inspector Don Coleman with the Calgary Police Service said.
Three people were questioned by police and charges are now pending against one of those people.
Sources confirmed to Global News that the person in question is a youth.

Investigators also said that children were at the party.
“I don’t know if they lived there or not but there were children in the residence at that time,” Colman confirmed.
Jason Burton, who lives in the same building with his wife and two-year-old daughter, told Global News he heard yelling and screaming on Tuesday evening.
“I didn’t think too much of it because you hear that a lot here,” Burton said. “I woke up and all the lights were going from the police cars and everything was blocked off, and I got up this morning and found out this lady was killed.”
“It’s very scary. It’s something you don’t want your kids around.”
Area resident Gunter Kleyer echoed Burton’s statement, saying it was hard waking up to find out what had happened.
“It kind of scares the hell out of you,” Kleyer said. “About two or three weeks ago they were fighting and arguing in there, and I got ahold of the landlord and complained about it.”
The Calgary Police Service homicide unit has taken over the investigation.
