UPDATE: Regina man reportedly killed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Few details are known in connection with a report that a 46-year-old Regina man was killed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico last week.

Canadian Foreign Affairs has confirmed a Canadian citizen was killed, but officials will not say if that person is Duane Lang, who according to an obituary notice passed away suddenly on July 28.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the Canadian Citizen who was killed in Mexico,” said Foreign Affairs in a statement. “The Canadian Embassy in Mexico City and the Canadian Consular Agency in Puerto Vallarta are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information. Consular officials stand ready to provide consular services to the family in Canada.”

In recent years there have been numerous Canadians who have had their Mexican travels cut tragically short.

Earlier this year a Calgary woman was viciously beaten. Sheila Nabb was found unconscious, lying in a pool of blood in an elevator at her resort.

Other Canadian visitors have been stabbed, burned and shot.

The Lang family declined to comment on Saturday. An investigation is ongoing.
