The Coquihalla Highway was closed in both directions south of Kamloops following at least three separate motor vehicle accidents on Sunday. Police say it was either hailing or snowing at the time of the crashes.
The crashes involved at least four vehicles and sent several people to hospital, including one person who was transported via air ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital. The condition of those sent to hospital is not known.
RCMP say road conditions are poor and they are asking drivers to avoid the stretch of Highway 5 near Inks Lake.
Southbound traffic is also being impacted at exit 217 at Zopkios.
An accident also happened in the tunnel 30 kilometres north of Hope, causing delays in both directions there as well.
Traffic was fully reopened in both directions just after 3 p.m., but is still extremely slow near the Coquihalla Summit.
