SAINTE-GENEVIEVE — A year of fundraising in the West Island among individuals, corporations and even human resource personnel culminated in West Island charities getting more than $1 million.

West Island Community Shares held its annual Live Here, Give Here celebration Thursday night inside the CEGEP Gérald-Godin in Sainte-Genevieve.

The organization splits the money among 40 area charities.

“Tonight is one of the most exciting evenings for 40 charities here in the West Island,” said Doreen Edward, who runs VOBOC, a charity that helps adolescents and young adults with cancer.

This marks the 18th year the organization has held its celebration.
