REGINA – St. Marguerite Bourgeoys School hosted it’s first ‘Hooping It Up’ free-throw competition in support of the Best Buddies program on Thursday.
The friendly competition is held in elementary and high schools as well as colleges and universities across Canada. ‘Hooping It Up’ has students attempting to sink as many baskets as possible in 60 seconds.
The Best Buddies program is designed to promote friendship between students with special needs and other students.
Amanda Labatt, a special needs teacher at St. Marguerite, says the program is something she feels “really passionate about” and that it’s something the students look forward to.
Regina Gardiner Park MLA and former Saskatchewan Roughrider Gene Makowsky came out to show his support and cheer the kids on.
Three national grand prizes of $500 for top male, top female and top ‘buddy’ will be given to the top scoring students. Prizes are also provided the top three students in each participating school.
