Seriously injured cat found in Red Deer garbage can

Alberta Animal Services is looking for witnesses after a very skinny cat was discovered in a garbage can in Red Deer.

On Monday, shortly before 5 p.m., a resident in the Glendale neighbourhood was taking out the trash when she found a backpack in her garbage can. She opened it to find another bag and inside that was a cat in need of urgent care.

Animal Services determined the cat has a broken pelvis and brain damage.

He will require surgery after he regains his strength.

Anyone that may have information about how the cat ended up there is asked to call Sgt. Thomas of Alberta Animal Services at 403-347-2388.

Animal Services is also asking the public for help naming the cat.
