Update: Tornado Tuesday strikes in Saskatchewan

Tornado Tuesday strikes again in Saskatchewan, bringing severe weather across much of the southern half of the province.

A cold front is to blame for the active weather — bringing mostly heavy rainfall and elevated wind speeds, along with some hail in the south-west.

Environment Canada now confirms six brief tornadoes touched down Tuesday evening.

Two tornadoes touched down just outside of Balgonie, another one was west of Fillmore, one also touched down just south west of Assiniboia, another one was south west of Grenfell and the final twister touched down in the community of Southey.

Meteorologist John Paul Cragg with Environment Canada says while there have been several storms so far this year in Saskatchewan, added interest in storm chasing means more twisters are being reported than ever before.

This brings the tornado total to between 25 and 32 for the season in Saskatchewan. In comparison, there have been 5 tornadoes in the United States in July.
