A B.C. mom is hoping her new invention is going to help parents everywhere take photos of their newborns and young children.
Janice Wong, from Port Coquitlam, had a daughter three years ago and even though she and her husband run a photography business she said it became hard to capture good photos of her baby consistently.
“My daughter is my inspiration,” said Wong. “When I was on mat leave with my daughter, we took a ton of photos of her.”
“But sometimes it can be a struggle, to get the baby’s attention for the photos and after a while they get tired and distracted.”
Wong decided to design something to keep the babies interested.
That’s where the idea for Lookielookies came from.
The device, which fits on any camera or phone, is a bunny holding a camera that emits a small flashing light.
“We incorporated the colourful flashing lights, because babies are instinctively drawn to lights,” said Wong. The device helps babies and young ones to look at the camera and helps to keep them entertained.
At the end of 2014, Wong quit her job as an engineer to focus on the lookielookies product and the move appears to have paid off.
She is flying to Toronto on Thursday to pitch her idea to investors on Dragon’s Den. The episode will air later this year.
They are already selling online and in a few stores and Wong said they have received great feedback from bloggers and parents.
“I have parents telling me it’s possible again to take pictures of their kids,” she said.
