WINNIPEG — A 57-year-old taekwondo instructor from Winnipeg is charged with child abuse for allegedly sexually assaulting two students.
Police said in 2009, King Yeung began inappropriately touching a then-16-year-old student at Kang’s Taekwondo Academy. Yeung was 50 at the time.
Over the next few years the sexual advances increased and continued two to three times a week, police said. The victim was also allegedly assaulted by the instructor on a team trip to Alberta in 2010.
In 2012 the victim dissolved the relationship and called police.
On May 4, police arrested and charged Yeung with sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual interference, corrupting morals and invitation to sexual touching.
Second victim
Recently a second victim came forward to police.
The victim, who was 16 at the time, said it started in 1998. Over the next six years the student was allegedly inappropriately touched and sexually assaulted by the same instructor, police said.
On May 9 Yeung was re-arrested and charged with additional offences.
Kang’s Taekwondo Academy declined to comment.
On the Kang Academy’s website, it says Yeung has been the provincial coach for national team trials since 1995.
