WINNIPEG — Manitobans are finding ways to help people who have been forced to flee from the Fort McMurray wildfire.

A semi-trailer sitting in the Peterbilt Manitoba parking lot in Winnipeg is being filled with donations.

Winnipeg truck driver Kyle Pachkowsky will drive the trailer to Alberta once it’s full.

His brother Jeremy was there as Winnipeggers dropped off items ranging from baby supplies to non-perishable food, “They’ve been pretty happy. I guess everyone’s just happy to see the support that Winnipeg’s giving,” he said.

The brothers say if there are enough donations to get more trailers filled, they’ll take those too.

Meanwhile, in Brandon, Manitoba another donation drive is bringing in thousands of items for people affected by the Fort McMurray wildfire.

In just an hour and a half on Saturday morning, a semi-trailer full of donations was collected.

“Everybody in Brandon knows somebody or has a relative out there [in the Fort McMurray area] so Brandon has some pretty close ties so we just wanted to honour that and support them,” said Sara-Jane Speers, an organizer of the event.

She posted the event on Facebook which prompted a massive response from Brandon resident, who she said were eager to help out people who have been displaced by the fire.
