ESTEVAN, SK – A decisive 4-1 win by the BCHL West Kelowna Warriors Thursday over the Melfort Mustangs has propelled the Okanagan hockey team to the championship game at the Western Canada Cup.
Warrior goals came from Brett Mennear, Jonathan Desbiens, Kylar Hope and Brian Basilico.
“I think the first couple games were a little sluggish,” said Warrior Kylar Hope. “Maybe [we’re] just not used to the rink or something. But I think we’re catching our legs and we’ll be flying into the playoffs.”
The Warriors won 3 of 4 games heading into the championship event.
West Kelowna will play the Brooks Bandits Saturday in Saskatchewan at 6 p.m. PDT.
The winner of that match will take the Cup, the loser will move on to a game Sunday afternoon to determine second and third place.
First and second place teams from the Western Canada Cup will head to the RBC Cup National Championship in Lloydminster.
