“Three generations of the Ford family have served our community. I want to build on this legacy of public service, and that means showing up at your door when you need assistance,” he said in a statement.

“My message to the residents of Ward 2 is simple: together, we can accomplish great things for our community.”

Council voted 40-0 in favour of a byelection, to be held July 25.

The Ward 2 seat was vacated after Ford died in March following a long battle with cancer.
