WHITBY, Ont. – A 17-year-old from Pickering who was shot by police during what was believed to be an armed robbery is now charged with using an imitation gun.
Durham regional police say investigators went to a Toronto hospital on Tuesday and charged the teen with robbery offences in connection with Monday’s incident.
The teen – who cannot be named because of his age – remains under medical care in serious but stable condition.

He’s charged with robbery using an imitation firearm, disguise with intent and weapons dangerous.
A bail hearing was conducted Wednesday at the hospital and the accused was remanded.
The Special Investigations Unit – which probes incidents involving police where there is serious injury or death – is asking anyone with information to contact investigators.
Police say officers were called to a veterinary clinic (on Kingston Road near Glenanna Road) in Pickering on Monday morning regarding an armed robbery in progress.
They say a male suspect was shot after being confronted by an officer who arrived at the scene. The SIU says several shots were fired by police and the teen sustained at least one gunshot wound.
