Road construction ramping up, triggering delays, detours
WATCH: The delays and detours across Metro Vancouver are about to ramp up, with summer construction about to begin. Randene Neill reports – Apr 27, 2016

Major construction projects coming to Vancouver streets this summer may mean drivers and pedestrians will pack some extra patience.

The work will continue on the Burrard Corridor, from Davie Street to 16th Avenue.

Crews will be busy with water and sewer replacement, redesign of the intersection at Burrard and Pacific, bridge rehabilitation and upgrades in the area.

The city says there will be lane reductions along the route throughout the project, but at least one lane in each direction will always be open between Davie and Broadway. Some full closures are being planned between Broadway and 16th.

The final section of the replacement of a 100-year-old water main on Pender Street from Seymour to Gore is currently underway, meaning Pender will be closed to westbound traffic and one lane will be open eastbound.

The stretch of SW Marine Drive, from Granville to Camosun, will see upgrades including sewer separation, road rehabilitation and update of existing bike and pedestrian facilities.

A full closure will be in effect starting May 2, but truck traffic will be rerouted to 41st Avenue.

The Downtown bike network will see upgrades along Beatty, Cambie, Smithe and Nelson Streets to complete connections and enhance safety. The city says there will be some lane reductions during construction.

On top of all the construction work, the city says Vancouver streets will also be used for 125 special events and 24 productions throughout the summer.
