Consecutive championships for the undefeated Saskatoon Valkyries

The Saskatoon Valkyries won their second consecutive WWCFL championship last night, defeating the Lethbridge Steel 64-21.

The teams met at Griffiths Stadium in order to decide which one would stay undefeated in the 2012 season.

This was the first meeting for the teams who squared off at the second annual Western Women’s Canadian Football League (WWCFL) championship at PotashCorp Park.

The Valkyries finished the regular season with a perfect 4-0 record in the Prairie Conference which includes the Regina Riot, Winnipeg Wolf Pack and Manitoba Fearless.

Teams in the Western conference also lost out to the Lethbridge Steel’s perfect record, although games were much closer on the scoreboard with the Calgary Rage and Edmonton Storm.

Last year, the Valkyries defeated the Edmonton Storm in the WWCFL championship by a score of 35-7.

The Valkyries are Saskatoon’s first female tackle football team which kicked off in 2011.
