WINNIPEG — Friends and family are trying to help a woman who lost everything, including her wheelchair, in a massive fire over the weekend.
A gofundme page was started for one of two sisters who were rescued from the fire early Saturday morning.
“They have lost everything. But the biggest difficultly is Helen’s wheelchair was lost due to the fire. It needs replaced and she cannot leave the hospital until one is located,” Anne Fountain said on the page.

Fountain started the page after hearing about the sisters’ story.
“I have a son who has disabilities and it’s been my biggest fear that I wouldn’t be able to get him out in a fire.”
The fire started at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday at a housing development under construction at Maryland St. and Westminster Ave. The fire quickly spread to two neighbouring homes. The flames trapped the two sisters, Helen and Neda.
Winnipeg fire captain Rob Labossiere said it was one of the hottest fires he’d ever encountered in his 26 year career. He sent four firefighters in to rescue the sisters, they were all injured during the rescue, three suffering second degree burns.

The fire was so hot a bus shelter and a sign on a church, both across the street, melted.
