An iconic KFC bucket sign came crashing down into a Long Beach, California parking lot on Monday due to high winds.

The debris left many customers and bystanders in disbelief.

“This is nuts, I was like yikes!” Jamie Lamb to KCAL9. “I’m 6’3 and this thing is bigger than me.”

“I was surprised that none of the trees fell, but the freaking bucket fell and it’s metal,” said 13-year-old Asriel Sides.

Unusually strong winds that reached gusts of 80 kph, pushed the sign over by cracking the base of the column the buckets sit on.

“When it’s sitting that high you don’t think it’s that big,” said Lamb. “It’s just like boom.”

Employees said they could feel the sign come crashing down.

“It’s sad, this is our trademark we love this sign,” Shahid Chaudhry, the local KFC owner, told KCAL9.

The sign took out a parking space and partially blocked the drive-thru, but will remain open while the sign is replaced.
