Calgary firefighters extinguish burning school buses north of Evanston

CALGARY – Investigators are trying to determine what caused several school buses to catch fire on Monday.

It happened just north of the community of Evanston in the area of 144 Avenue N.E. and 6 Street S.E. at around 3:15 a.m.

Firefighters arrived to find multiple school buses completely engulfed in flames.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire but said at least five buses were destroyed while two suffered heat damage.

According to the Calgary Fire Department, all of the buses were previously decommissioned. As such, it’s not thought the damage will have an impact on student transportation in Calgary.

No injuries were reported.
